Picture Framing Glass Options

Picture Framing Glass Options

at Artists Framing Services Berwick

Picture Framing Glass or Glazing options is becoming more and more a factor more options are introduced into our industry.  We have several options of glass and acrylic which we can offer you.  It all comes down to the look you are after along with the value of what it is we are framing, the size of the item and where it is being hung along with your budget and what your intend on spending on your art.

Please note that we do not recommend placing any artwork or item directly against the glass in any frame as glass can draw the moisture out of your artwork, painting or whatever it may be.  We will suggest against it on consultation but 100% leave the decision up to the customer.  We also recommend that you do not hang any frame in direct sunlight.

Standard Glass

Plain or standard glass is a 2mm clear glass and our most common used.  It will protect your item from dust and bugs and if your frame is hung in the right spot it is fine.  You may get a reflection from the glass if the light is shinning on the frame and a print can fade over time pending on ink and paper quality when using this glass but this is the most affordable option.

Non-Reflective Glass

Non-Reflective glass or non-glare glass can be a great alternative if you will be hanging your artwork in a bright room.  It is frosted glass which is designed to reduce the reflection and is most commonly used on tapestries or needle works.  Non Reflective glass works best when the artwork is sitting only a couple of millimetres from the glass.  If you want your artwork set back further you are best to look at other options.

TruVue UltraVue 70 Glass

UltraVue glass is an amazing product.  It may cost a bit more but for its price the results certainly justify it. This glass is almost invisible, and works even better when the artwork is set back a bit with a spacer or fillet.  UltraVue is also has 70% UV protection for you artwork to prevent fading or sun damage to you paper. You need to see it to believe it  (or try to see it).

Clear Acrylic or Plastic Glass

Acrylic is the safe option of glazing as it will not shatter into pieces if broken therefore is well suited for them larger pieces or for artwork that is going to be hung in an environment where a lot of children will be playing such as schools or kindergartens.  We use acrylic mostly in a 3mm thickness but we can also have it cut in a 4.5mm for the extra large framing jobs.
